Not always spam, it can basically be anybody who joins a group with the intention of harming it.

Hypothetical situation:

Someone joins, gains trust, becomes moderator, wrecks a bunch of the site. Which is why it's not just given out...although I'm a bit confused as to what exactly I did to get moderator here...

Or they could just go for the basic spam. Like the guy earlier today.

Someone who joins with the intent of spammng.

This could be porn, Rick Rolls, Goatse, and any other shock sites. It's not limited to spam, it could be enticing arguments, ecessive flaming, and anyother misdoing.
