Re: Has anyone modded their xbox? (not firmware, only case mods)
Hey guys, I'm thinking of buying this (link) case for my controller, and i was wondering if anybody has done this, or purchased something similar.
I'm just worried about screwing something up while putting it together, and I'd like a little input.
Also, here's the link for the instructions, if you'd care to look.

You won't mess anything up. Case changes are really easy. Just be careful of buttons falling out when you open it. Don't lose anything!Dante wrote:Hey guys, I'm thinking of buying this (link) case for my controller, and i was wondering if anybody has done this, or purchased something similar.

Mkay, the only thing I'm worried about are the LEDs, nowhere in the instructions does it mention installing the LEDs, except for soldering the wires. Are the LEDs built into the case or what?

You can get anything from eBay.Argonautica wrote:ebay.Air Bullet wrote:Where did he get that?

I would assume that they are. I would try to get some inscructions on soldering so that you don't mess that part up.Dante wrote:Mkay, the only thing I'm worried about are the LEDs, nowhere in the instructions does it mention installing the LEDs, except for soldering the wires. Re: Has anyone modded their xbox? (not firmware, only case mods)
The soldering is easy, and I've soldered wires before. Also, it's really not that hard, you put the wire where it's supposed to go, heat the iron up, and touch the wire.
Re: Has anyone modded their xbox? (not firmware, only case mods)
Yeah, but if you solder it wrong, you are probably screwed.
Re: Has anyone modded their xbox? (not firmware, only case mods)
Mkay then, do you have any specific instructions I should keep in mind?
Here's the thing, I've soldered two wires, but never a wire to circuit board. Is there anything different about it?
1. Heat soldering iron
2. Once hot, touch it to the wire (make sure the wire is where you need it)
3. Touch the solder to the wire to check heat
4. Once it smokes, touch solder to opposite side of wire (opposite from the soldering iron)
5. Move it around a little, and don't take too long, and be sure not to touch the solder to the iron.
6. Remove solder, then remove/shut off the iron
That's what i was planning on doing, although if it's different, i'd appreciate some advice

If anyone is interested, i finished with my modding project this afternoon, and i uploaded pictures to the link i have in the original post. it came out really nice, if you want to check it out!

That seems right. Do you know where to solder everything?Dante wrote:Mkay then, do you have any specific instructions I should keep in mind?

I get a lot of my how-to's from xbox-scene
they've got a lot of good stuff, if you're stuck/struggling

Re: Has anyone modded their xbox? (not firmware, only case mods)
Argo, the solder is a thin tube of metal which is used to bind the 2 components.
Basically, ya know how electricity can travel through metal? Well, you connect to wires together by melting them into place with a small glob of metal. It's also filled with a material called flux, which is something you don't need to know about. It's the stuff that smokes.
And yes, I know that you're supposed to apply the solder to the opposite side of the wire (opposite from the soldering iron) and move it around for a few seconds.

It's when you bind 2 things together using heat and melting metal. I do it at work.Argonautica wrote:im lost. probably because i dont know what a solder is.Air Bullet wrote:That seems right. you should mod your controller so you have it light up every time you shot, hit the ground from out of a jump, were hit by a grenade, melee'd, or anything else involving an impact.

i might. there's a way to do a rumble mod, where instead of rumbling, it lights up. looks better with clear controllers though, which i dont have. the project i'm working on is calling for all-white controllers; case, d-pad, thumbstcks, everything!
Re: Has anyone modded their xbox? (not firmware, only case mods)
I'm still undecided as to whether or not I should mod the lights on my 360

I know one thing, I will never mod my actual 360. That baby was made too early to disregard my RRoD warrenty.
